High-class sprinter Rocket Man will be out of action for at least six months.
The Singapore-based gelding suffered a hairline fracture to a leg during a work-out under regular partner Robbie Fradd.
Rocket Man was narrowly beaten by Sacred Kingdom in the KrisFlyer International in May, and was next set to line up in the Sprinters Stakes at Nakayama in October.
But those plans have now been shelved after X-rays revealed Rocket Man has a hairline fracture of the cannon bone to his off-side foreleg. He will now have surgery on the injury, which is likely to take six months to heal.
"He was out to do two rounds of light work, quickening up in the second lap, but Robbie just felt there was something wrong with him," trainer Patrick Shaw told
www.turfclub.com.sg.
"He didn't let him stride up and kept a tight hold of him before dismounting and leading him back.
"It's lucky we have found it now and it didn't happen during a race or a fast gallop - the result could have been a lot different.
"He's still a young horse and the prognosis is good so far. We will just have to keep our fingers crossed and hope the operation is a success."
