No disrespect to any of the venues on Tuesday but probably the most significant result of the day will be the outcome of Frankie Dettori’s appeal against his ten-day careless riding ban for the ride on Angel’s Hideaway at Newmarket’s July meeting.
The ban currently rules him out of the King George at Ascot and the entire Goodwood week and it will be his aim to get it halved to enable him to defer the Group One days and ride in all the feature races.
Opinion seems split as to whether the ban given was too lengthy. My personal view was that the amount of interference was significant and that even though the right hand swerve of Angel’s Hideaway was rapid there was not a great deal done to correct it until contact was made.
Some reduction may result but it may be very optimistic to expect sufficient days to be lopped off to enable anything other than the second half of Goodwood to be achievable. Expect the answer to be known by early afternoon.
The sun continues to beat down and the fields generally continue to suffer so, unusually, Tuesday’s selections all run on the all-weather.
Returned to form off the back of a wind operation last time. While better known as a soft ground horse the deep nature of the all-weather tracks at present seemed no barrier last time.
Still a maiden after 14 starts but returns here off a 3lb lower mark than her run here over course and distance last November. The two recent runs should have blown away the cobwebs and the yard are in as good a form as at any time in the past 18 months.
Take particular note of horses coming out of the Chelmsford race in which Shyarch finished second this month. The race has already thrown up three next time out winners (winner, fifth and seventh) and is represented here by Shyarch (second), Stosur (third) and Jack Nevison (sixth). Preference is for Christine Dunnett’s charge off the same mark, which now looks lenient.
Ran close to a career best on his debut for the yard over course and distance last time. Having formerly been trained by Aidan O’Brien the booking of Ryan Moore is an eye-catching one and he can continue his resurgence.
