Clive Brittain is anticipating further improvement from Misheer as she bids for Group Two glory in tomorrow's Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Cherry Hinton Stakes at Newmarket.
The daughter of Oasis Dream finished five lengths adrift of American filly Jealous Again in the Queen Mary Stakes over the minimum trip, with the winner subsequently snapped by Sheikh Mohammed.
Although a little way behind the winner, Misheer had a minimum of two lengths to spare over Ceedwell, Capercaillie and Crown in finishing best of the British runners. That trio reoppose over six furlongs at Headquarters, but Brittain believes Misheer has progressed again since Ascot.
He said: "She has some very good form and the ground will certainly not be against us tomorrow. The extra furlong is probably what she has needed too. She had a little hold-up the week before Royal Ascot and we didn't quite get the work into her as we usually would before a race like that."
The handler added: "It may well be she was a little short as she did flatten out at halfway before running on again. I think she will be better this time and although the American filly was in front, she beat the rest of the British runners and I don't think she was at her peak."
Ed Dunlop's Albany Stakes winner Habaayib is the ante-post favourite but Brittain is taking encouragement from a line through stablemate Jira.
He added: "You would obviously have to look at Ed Dunlop's filly as she won the Albany but we ran Jira in that race from a bad draw and she wasn't that far away. Jira probably wouldn't be as good as Misheer at this stage so I think we are certainly in there with a good chance."
Richard Hannon is well aware of the task facing Crown, winner of two of her five starts, after finishing over 13 lengths behind Jealous Again.
"Crown would look to have it to do in the Cherry Hinton, but she was staying on at the end when eighth in the Queen Mary Stakes and the extra furlong should suit her," he told
