Karl Burke plans to aim at least one member of his talented two-year-old team at the Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Gimcrack Stakes. The Middleham trainer has Woodcote Stakes winner Corporal Maddox, Norfolk Stakes runner-up Reignier and the unraced Palio Square among the 53 entries in the Group Two over six furlongs at York on August 19. Of the Woodcote victory by Corporal Maddox at Epsom, Burke said: "It wasn't the plan to be so far back, but they went so quick that we had no choice but to settle towards the rear. He'd always shown a good turn of foot at home and thankfully produced it on that day as well."The handler continued: "He came out of the race in good form and could go to France this weekend (for the Prix du Bois at Chantilly) or the July Stakes (Newmarket) next week, but nothing is set in stone." Reignier belied his odds of 50-1 in the Norfolk when only finding Radiohead too good."I was expecting him to show something. He'd previously come second to Capercaillie, who then ran really well to finish fourth in the Queen Mary Stakes," Burke added. "Reignier is still growing. He will improve for stepping up in trip - he's not just a five-furlong horse." Of Palio Square, a colt by Harlan's Holiday, Burke commented: "He is a very nice horse, although six furlongs could possibly be on the sharp side for him. But he is working very well and is a horse I like a lot."Radiohead, trained by Brian Meehan, is among the entries - as is Richard Hannon's Canford Cliffs, brilliant winner of the Coventry Stakes. Alfred Nobel, winner of Sunday's Railway Stakes at the Curragh, heads Aidan O'Brien's seven possibles.
