David Pipe’s Windbeneathmywings has met with a setback that will delay the start of his hurdling career until 2026.
The five-year-old ran in three bumpers in Ireland before joining Pipe, making his debut for the stable in a Listed event last December and strolling to a 14-length success.
He was subsequently regarded as a Cheltenham Festival contender, but a setback ruled him out of the rest of the term and he was given plenty of time to regroup ahead of a hurdling campaign this season.
A low-key introduction to hurdling was planned after the chestnut had pleased in his schooling at home, but another issue has paused his progress and he will not be seen until the new year.
“Windbeneathmywings had a small setback, he won’t be back out until next year now,” said Pipe.
“It has slowed us down a bit, so our plans are on hold for the present moment.
“Hopefully it won’t hold us up too much.”
