Richard Hoiles's Tuesday tips: Baron can rule at Hereford

Whilst the focus, quite understandably, was once again on Bryony Frost’s victory in Warwick’s Classic Chase at the weekend, it was another horse partnered by a female rider that caught the eye.

Prime Venture has now qualified for the Pertemps Final at the Festival after finishing fourth in Saturday’s qualifier.

Evan Williams is a very capable trainer and he tends to have horses for the duration of their careers, buying out of the Point-To-Point field or as unraced youngsters.

As such they are often brought along gradually so when Prime Venture won on both his bumper (courtesy of the stewards) and hurdling debut it made me take notice.

Since then he has progressed steadily through the ranks, finishing second in two decent handicaps before potentially compromising his mark with a wide margin win at Ffos Las.

What that did ensure, however, is a mark that will guarantee a place in the Pertemps Final once qualification was achieved.

Travelling wide throughout under a capable but still inexperienced amateur, Evan’s daughter Isabel, he shaped as if this mark may not be beyond him.

Whilst he has no Cheltenham experience those two placings in sixteen runner handicaps suggests it shouldn’t be a problem. One for the Festival short list - he is 20-1 Bet 365, Betfair and Sky Bet.

2.00 Hereford - Baron Du Plessis:

An Evan Williams horse also features in Tuesday's selections, which start with Baron Du Plessis.

Still a maiden but his last two runs off this mark should put him right in the shake up.

He met a real blot on the handicap in Ramses De Tellee at Chepstow before seeming to find things happening a bit too quick down in trip last time.

There was money for him that day and his shrewd yard may have found the opening to recoup any losses.

2:30 Hereford - Theatre Stage:

A typical Evan Williams slow burner, who may be about to catch light.

Very green when qualifying for his mark in just two runs he shaped with promise at Exeter before fluffing his lines when a short price at Ffos Las.

It is still early days however and the step up in trip could be the key to beginning to unlock his full potential.

5:40 Kempton - Eljaddaaf:

Dean Ivory is very much a trainer to respect on the All-Weather, with an excellent overall record and hopefully Eljaddaf can add further to it here.

He gets the nod over stable companion Lucymai due to his better draw, whilst the way he finished at the track last time suggests the return to 7f will not pose a problem.

6:10 Kempton - Corazon Espinado:

Looks to have started out in handicaps off a very workable mark based on his last two runs over 7f in nurseries.

It is not always easy to come from midfield or further back at Lingfield and he met trouble at a crucial stage last time.

He should have more room to operate at Kempton and can get off the mark here.
