Reynier considering Hong Kong Mile bid with Lazzat

Lazzat could stop off at Sha Tin for a tilt at next month’s Hong Kong Mile following his narrow defeat in Australia over the weekend.
Jerome Reynier’s French star stretched his unbeaten record to six when claiming a first Group One victory in the Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville in August and was subsequently saved for the hugely lucrative Golden Eagle at Rosehill.
After recovering from a tardy start to lead for much of the seven-and-a-half-furlong contest, the three-year-old was mowed down late by the William Haggas-trained Lake Forest and Cieren Fallon, but stuck to his guns to finish best of the rest and pick up over £1million in prize-money.
“Everything went against him as he didn’t jump out well from the gate, he had to take the lead because there was no pace and he got challenged way too early,” said Reynier.
“He was very tough to almost hold them all off and in a different scenario it could have been a different story, but I’m very proud of him and we’re quite happy with the way he came back and we look forward to running him again.
“He’s invited to go to Hong Kong for the Mile, so depending on how he comes back from the race, he could stop there on the way home to give it a go. It’s a flat course, so a mile there is almost the equivalent of what he ran over here in Sydney, so it shouldn’t be a problem.”
