Radio heads for Phoenix stakes

Radiohead will bid to supplement his Royal Ascot gains in the Camas Park & Ashtown House Studs Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh on Sunday week. The son of 2001 Phoenix winner Johannesburg took the Norfolk Stakes at the Royal meeting and will be stepping up to six furlongs for the first time."He worked very well on Friday morning, he is in great shape since his Royal Ascot win and it is all systems go for him to run at the Curragh," said trainer Brian Meehan.The Manton raider is certain to face tough opposition, especially from the Aidan O'Brien stable, which has won the race nine times in the last 11 years.The Ballydoyle possibles include recent Railway Stakes scorer Alfred Nobel, while Jim Bolger, successful in the race three times, has entered Kitty Kiernan and Gold Bubbles. Trainer Tommy Stack is considering running Anglesey Stakes winner Walk on Bye."A decision will not be made until Monday evening on whether we will supplement her into the race, but she is in very good form and has come out of the Curragh race in great shape," said the trainer's son and assistant, Fozzy.Joanna Morgan may attempt to become the first woman trainer to win the race with Coventry Stakes fourth Moran Gra, while Navan victor Wealdmore Wave could aim to give trainer Ger Lyons his first Group One success.
