The Juddmonte team are excited to see what Purview can achieve next season at four after bringing the curtain down on his three-year-old campaign with victory at Cork last week.
Trained by Dermot Weld, the son of Kingman has always been held in high regard and having impressed on his debut in November last year, he gave one of the stars of the current campaign, Delacroix, a fright when they met on Purview’s second start in May.
Short of room at a vital stage when going close in the Meld Stakes at Leopardstown subsequently, he bounced back from the sole below-par display of his career in France to serve a reminder of his potential when comfortably winning the Navigation Stakes.
With that likely to be his final action of the season, connections can now look forward to exploring options up in trip when he remains in training next season.
“It’s taken us a little while to work Purview out and he has always worked like a very good horse,” said Barry Mahon, European racing manager for the owners.
“He had that big run behind Delacroix earlier in the year, but then got into a little bit of trouble on his next start at Leopardstown which was plain to see.
“We went to France and the ground was plenty quick enough for him, it was proper good to firm ground. We thought that would be fine for him but Colin (Keane) just felt he was never at ease on it.
“When we got him home we said we would wait for the Navigation Stakes and hope for a little bit of rain, which we got, and he was much more comfortable with a bit of juice in the ground and looked to stay well.
“I think that’s him finished for the year now but I think he can be a horse to very much look forward to next season and maybe he’s a horse who could step up to 12 furlongs next year.
“He’s a huge, big horse, who is still a little bit on the weak side, and in fairness to Dermot he always said he was a 12-furlong horse. I think the Cork run emphasised that and I do think when he’s a bit stronger and older, he can make up into a very nice 12-furlong colt.”
