James Bethell's Whaston (12-1) won an eventful Up To £125 Free Bet At victorchandler.com Handicap at Ayr.
The four-year-old made all under Graham Gibbons and in front was certainly the place to be as carnage ensued behind. Balwearie slipped up on the bend, bringing down five others while Neon Blue came down of his own accord at the back.
All the horses and most of the jockeys appeared to get up unscathed from the incident, although rider Paul Mulrennan was seen receiving medical attention.
Heavy rain had fallen before the meeting on what had been fast ground. Following the incident, a deputation of officials, trainers and jockeys travelled down to the bend to assess the situation.
Freddie Tylicki made his first ride for Michael Dods a winning one when guiding home Twosheetstothewind (9-2) in the Victor Chandler Handicap.
Tylicki had the five-year-old handily placed from the outset, and sent her into the lead inside the final furlong where she was always doing enough to hold the challenge of Ingleby Star by three-quarters of a length.
Dods, saddling his 27th winner of the year, said: "She has got ability but is a bit of a madam, but to be fair she has done it well. She has to be ridden for a bit of luck, but Freddie got her tucked in and she travelled well."
Richard Fahey's good run continued when Lord Aeryn chalked up his first success at the second attempt under Paul Hanagan in the victorchandler.com Median Auction Maiden Stakes.
Just inside the final furlong it looked as if one of Mark Johnson's pair Always Dazzling or Bahraj were going to win, but Hanagan got a good run out of the 7-4 second-favourite who burst through to go three-quarters of a length clear.
Hanagan said: "Tony (Hamilton) said the horse was very green first time out and he was still green this time. But he is a very nice horse who will improve again and get a bit further on the way he finished today."
