Richard Hannon has confirmed Paco Boy will return to a mile in the BGC Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood on Wednesday.
Having won the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot on his penultimate start, the son of Desert Style looked in need of a step back up in trip when flying home to finish fourth in the six-furlong July Cup.
"The owners have left the decision to me, but I think we should have a crack at the Goodwood race rather than go to France for the Prix Maurice de Gheest," the trainer told his website,
www.richardhannonracing.tv.
"Paco Boy worked super on Sunday morning and could not be in better shape. I have no worries at all about taking on Eclipse runner-up Rip Van Winkle, but Ghanaati is obviously the one we have to beat.
"Ghanaati looked a very good filly when she won the 1000 Guineas and she confirmed that impression in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot.
"But they say that you should never fight shy of one horse in a race, so, while we face a monumental task trying to concede 11lb, we will give it our best shot.
"After Goodwood, Paco Boy will head for the Prix Jacques le Marois at Deauville on August 15."
