Tony McCoy was at his brilliant best when landing a last-gasp victory on Nostringsattached in the £65,000 totesport.com Summer Plate Handicap Chase at Market Rasen.
Only fourth over the final fence, the Jonjo O'Neill-trained 7-2 favourite was brought with an irresistible late surge to nail his stablemate Keepitsecret by a short head. No Panic was just a neck away as he made a gallant attempt to give Peter Bowen a fourth successive victory in this race.
O'Neill said: "Tony was brilliant. I was looking at the race and was thinking Keepitsecret had come to win the race when Tony came flying up on the other side. And only he would have got him home.
"All credit to Dominic (Elsworth on Keepitsecret). He gave his horse a great spin and he came to win his race but they just got done. There's a race at Newton Abbot next month so both horses will go for that. They are summer types really and there is nothing else left for them."
McCoy said: "We got a bit squeezed out on the bend but he really kept on once we got clear and the plan was to ride him like that (to come late). I must admit earlier on in the season we didn't think he could come and win a race like this so he has done his job."
Alex Voy's enterprising tactics paid off on English City (16-1) in the toteswinger Handicap Hurdle. The 10lb claimer took Lucy Normile's six-year-old into the lead on the home turn and quickly took several lengths out of the opposition.
However, Tension Point came out of the pack and was only two and a half lengths down at the line. Last Flight was three and three-quarter lengths away in third.
Normile's husband Alan said: "He's a bit lazy, so we put the cheekpieces on and they've done the trick for him. Nothing has been going right for him this season for a variety of reasons and this is the first time I really fancied him.
"We'll have a look. There's a 0-125 two-and-a-half-mile handicap hurdle at Galway on the Thursday of their festival and we might take him across there. Alex gave him a good ride. He may have gone a touch too soon but he was travelling so well and when you have a lad from your own stable able to claim 10lb it is a very big help."
