The winners keep on rolling in for 2000 Guineas hero Billy Loughnane who wasted little time making his mark aboard Supido on the opening day of Chester’s May Festival.
Having lit up Newmarket when landing his first Classic aboard Bow Echo on Saturday, the 20-year-old confessed to being “still up on cloud nine” after steering Ian Williams’ 15-2 chance to a half-length success in the Join Ladbrokes Bet 5 Get 30 Earl Grosvenor Handicap.
Loughnane, who was flagged down for selfies by the thronging Chester crowd on his way back to the weighing room, said: “It’s nice to start the meeting off with a winner. I’m still up on cloud nine after Saturday, but it’s great to be back riding now and hopefully it’s the start of a good week.
“I just went for a bit of dinner on Saturday night with my family and friends because I was riding on Sunday, but it was a great day. It’s great to have a Guineas winner and hopefully I can roll on and have more (big winners).”
On Supido, he added: “He ran well from a good draw and he threatened to do this last year, a couple of his runs were great before going off the boil a bit towards the end of the year.
“Ian had him in good nick today and it was a nice performance.”
