Jumbo Rio made his first start in the senior ranks a winning one with a gutsy defeat of Cuan Na Grai in the Kevin McManus Bookmaker Grimes Hurdle at Tipperary.
Ebaziyan took the field along but faded four flights from the finish, where it swiftly developed into a three-horse race.
Fosters Cross held an advantage three from home but Cuan Na Grai took it up on the turn and Jumbo Rio, who had been in the first five throughout, tracked them under Andrew McNamara.
A fine jump two out saw McNamara's mount hit the front and although hard pressed in the closing stages after an error at the last, Edward O'Grady's 11-8 favourite held on.
