Joorabchian busy again as Tattersalls spree continues

Kia Joorabchian’s Amo Racing swooped for two more costly colts on day two of the Tattersalls Book 1 Yearling Sale in Newmarket.

Joorabchian provided the first seven-figure purchase on day one when he bid 3.6million guineas for a Frankel colt and he added a 2.2m gns son of Wootton Bassett to his team on Wednesday.

Out of Luna Mare, he is a half-brother to Joorabchian’s Crypto Force, who won the Beresford Stakes and was also placed in Group One company.

The owner told Tattersalls: “We have the half-brother, he has been a good horse, and won a Group Two for us. We know the mare can produce a good horse, and so to have a Wootton Bassett out of her is a positive, a big upgrade for her, too.”

Amo also secured a son of Night Of Thunder out of Model Guest for 1.7m gns, with Eddie O’Leary – brother of leading National Hunt owner Michael – the successful consignor via Lynn Lodge Stud.

He said: “He is an absolutely beautiful horse, he has a great mind, the sire is very good, and I hope the two-year-old filly is very good. The mare has had a stunning filly and colt by Night Of Thunder.”

After securing the top lot on the first day, Godolphin splashed out 2.2million guineas for a son of Frankel out of Innevera, making him a full brother to their Group Two scorer Ottoman Fleet.

The colt was consigned by Fittocks Stud, which is run by former trainer Luca Cumani and his wife Sara, and it was the best sales result so far for the team.

Luca Cumani told Tattersalls: “We sold one for 2m gns last year, which was exciting, and this is even better.

“He is such a lovely horse, he is great-looking Frankel horse out of a proven mare and we are delighted he is going to such a good home.”

Fittocks Stud was also the consignor for a Dubawi colt out of Group One winner Lady Bowthorpe, who made 1.3m guineas after being purchased by MV Magnier and White Birch Farm – a first buy at this year’s sale for the Coolmore team.

Cumani said: “I’m delighted with that. Unfortunately I made a mistake by telling Emma (Banks, owner) beforehand that my top one this year would be hers, so when one made 2.2 obviously expectations were for this one to be even higher so that was my mistake – wrong prediction at the wrong time.”

Magnier also paid 1.7m gns for a son of No Nay Never out of Group One-winning juvenile Millisle.

He said: “No Nay Never is having another great year with the likes of Charles Darwin, who’s very good, and True Love. The mare was very good.”

No Nay Never was also the sire of a 950,000 gns colt out of Nictate while Godolphin paid 900,000 gns and 800,000gns for sons of Frankel and Wootton Bassett, with the latter a half-brother to Facteur Cheval, while a Wootton Bassett half-brother to multiple Group One scorer and promising stallion Ghaiyyath went to Karl and Kelly Burke for 800,000 gns.
