Thirty-five. That is the number of runners Gordon Elliott has at
Navan on Sunday, which in itself is extraordinary, but having 15 of the 21 remaining in the feature - the Bar One Racing Troytown Handicap Chase (2.30) - will be the talk of Navan.
And he's not nearly as powerful as Willie Mullins these days! Gordon, Gigginstown, and all have made it into a really competitive renewal, but the optics for the game itself are certainly up for debate.
Elliott gave his views on the Troytown Chase about two minutes into this interview with Gary O'Brien on Saturday
Despite having the bulk of the runners in the Troytown, I'm not convinced Elliott has the winner in his team.
My preference is for the Henry de Bromhead-trained Largy Debut.
No doubt he's been branded this or that, having found it so hard to win, but I felt he was a revelation at Limerick last time when runner-up to Gevrey in the Munster National, when beautifully ridden by Darragh O'Keeffe.
The rider pointed out afterwards that there was no pace, so it was really hard to pass pretty much the entire field.
Whatever you think about one stable having nearly the entire field, surely it will help this being truly run.
