Inis Mor bounces back in Height Of Fashion

Inis Mor delivered on the promise she showed last year when putting her Guineas disappointment well behind her with a win in the Fitzdares Height Of Fashion Stakes at Goodwood.
David Menuisier’s filly had shown some smart form at two when second in a valuable sales race in France on Arc weekend.
She ran respectably when fourth over an inadequate seven furlongs in the Nell Gwyn but ran down the field in the 1000 Guineas and was stepping up to 10 furlongs for the first time.
Saffie Osborne always looked in control on the 4-1 shot but Earth Shot kept her honest all the way to the line, going down by just a head.
“The win is pleasing because she’s run in top flight races but had no black type so now that is secure,” Menuisier told Racing TV.
“We always felt she’d be better over 10 furlongs but I felt they went too slow for her, Saffie kept her nerve really, it was a great ride and I’ll be using her again, she’s one of the best.
“The Prix de Diane is a possibility or something else, it’s a matter of going home and enjoying this. I’ll speak to the team. I think the Oaks is too far and too soon.”
Golden Story just edged out Del Maro with odds-on favourite Saxon Street only third in the British Stallion Studs EBF Cocked Hat Stakes.
Karl Burke’s lightly-raced colt looked very green when third behind Aidan O’Brien’s Constitution River at Chester in the Dee Stakes but he clearly showed the benefit of that experience.
Sent into an early lead by Pierre-Louis Jamin, he was allowed to set very steady fractions and as so often proves the case, the place to be off a slow pace is in front.
Saxon Street was caught a little flat footed when the pace did eventually quicken but it looked like Del Maro had Golden Story covered a furlong out.
To his credit, though, Golden Story (9-2) battled back gamely on the rail to fend off Del Maro by a nose.
“Obviously he was very good today and we always knew even last year that he had loads of ability,” said Jamin.
“He’s big and raw and quite immature on his first two starts but coming into today we were quite confident he could win if he did things the right way round and he did. I’d say there’s more to come.
“He was green in front still but to be fair he put his head down when he was challenged.
“I’m not sure what the targets are. Karl will have a plan, he’s not in the Derby and I’m not sure mentally if he’d be ready for it anyway. He’s still a bit immature and you’ve seen some horses lose the Derby before the race.
“Later on in the year there are some good races over a mile and a half and maybe further, he could possibly be a St Leger horse.”
