Monsieur Chevalier gave trainer Richard Hannon a seventh Weatherbys Super Sprint with an ultimately emphatic victory in the valuable sales race at Newbury.
Richard Hughes bided his time on the 2-1 favourite who still had plenty to do at halfway in the five-furlong dash.
However, once he hit top gear, Monsieur Chevalier cut through the field to head the leader Shamandar in the last 100 yards and win going away in the end by half a length. Archers Road was a length and a half away in third.
Hannon said: "It is nice to win a race like that. I have been lucky in the race and, as they say, if you throw enough muck at the wall some will stick.
"I gave up on him three furlongs out, but Richard said he wanted to ride him like that as he was on the pace too much at Ascot. I thought his chance had gone at Ascot before he got the bump though. We'll see how he comes out of this but we could think about the Richmond at Goodwood."
