Gio Ponti landed his third Grade One win on the bounce when winning the Man o' War Stakes at Belmont Park on Saturday.
Trained by Christophe Clement and ridden by Ramon Dominguez, Gio Ponti beat Musketier to win by a length and three quarters with German raider Quijano back in third.
Clement told
www.thoroughbredtimes.com: "He's just a very nice horse. He did not have the best trip, being wide -- he was widest of all going in to the first turn -- but Ramon gave him a great ride."
"He did not panic and he still had enough to finish and finished very well. That's the great thing about good horses -- they overcome a few things," he added.
Over at Hollywood Park Tuscan Evening, formerly trained by John Murphy in Ireland and fourth in the Irish 1000 Guineas last year after being demoted from second, won the Grade Two Royal Heroine Mile Stakes.
Without a win in her 11 starts for Murphy, she has now won five of her six races this season for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer.
