Top tipster Dave Nevison has three selections at HQ on Friday - enjoy all the action on Racing TV.
Ed Bethell has had a terrific season plus has done me a few favours along the way, and his improving three-year-old can round it off for us with a win here.
Cavalier Approach has won two of his past three starts and had valid excuses when sixth two starts ago (he reared up and missed the break).
He also ran really well in a much better grade race (0-85) than he generally competes at when fifth at Beverley in June.
He looks an improving young sprinter from a yard in cracking form, and certainly appears one to be interested in. He is drawn two, which may appear a little wide, but he has the pace just outside him, and I think Kevin Stott will be able to get cover for him.
I will be disappointed if he doesn’t run well, if handling these conditions.
Joseph Parr is another trainer who has his string in excellent form as the turf season draws to a close, and he's had four winners from his past eight runners (at the time of writing).
Kamanika has contributed one of those recent wins, but this consistent filly has won four times this season, with three of her victories coming on soft or heavy conditions.
She is a trainer’s dream when it comes to handicapping as she has never won by more than ¾ of a length, and has gone up less than a stone since the start of the season.
An improving filly can be a very potent force at this time of the season and, given Kamanika will not be phased at all by the ground, I take her to complete the hat-trick.
This race will be an absolute slog and I always have a close look at Ian Williams-trained runners as he is a master with older staying types.
Ten-year-old Black Kalanisi looks an ideal type for this race as he has the maturity and strength to slog through these conditions plus arrives here in very good form having won last time out.
Despite that victory, he is still on a mark lower than when he joined the Williams yard at the start of this season, and won off this rating at Goodwood last year.
The finishers will be strung out over a long distance in this, but hopefully Black Kalanisi will be leading them through the mud.
