Trainer Karl Burke will find out on Tuesday if his application for a stay on his 12-month disqualification pending the outcome of an appeal has been successful.Burke officially lodged his appeal on Monday against the year-long ban handed out last week after he admitted passing inside information. The British Horseracing Authority has duly set aside August 17 and 18 for the hearing into the appeal against the penalty and a temporary 24-hour delay to the start of the disqualification has already been applied, meaning Burke can have runners on Tuesday. A final decision on the matter will be taken by a board member. The North Yorkshire handler has a leading chance with Lord Shanakill in Wednesday's BGC Sussex Stakes at Goodwood, and a delay on the punishment would be crucial to the horse running in his name.If Burke is not granted a stay, Lord Shanakill will still be able to run in the Group One contest if transferred to the care of another trainer.
