Brummell backed to be handy at Haydock

Brummell backed to be handy at Haydock

Brummell can return to winning ways in the First In, Last to Leave Handicap at Haydock on Thursday.
Julie Camacho’s sprinter has a decent strike-rate having won six of his 21 outings to date and the son of Dandy Man reached a career-high rating of 87 after successive wins at Pontefract and Hamilton last season.
That Hamilton race could hardly have worked out any better as he beat Elegant Erin, who was racing off a mark of 81 and is now 10lb higher.
Every other runner in that race has won since including the one who came home last of the six, Far Above Dream, who was successful in a valuable contest at Newbury at the weekend.
Brummell’s form fell off a cliff thereafter, he failed to beat a rival in two subsequent races, however, he was sent for a second breathing operation and it seems to have worked.
Sent off 16-1 in a six-runner class three at Doncaster he showed up well for a long way before fading into third, beaten less than three lengths over six furlongs but five of his wins have come over the minimum trip.
He tackles five furlongs once more but down in class and with cut in the ground he should get away with it.
Stoneacre Joe is an interesting runner in the Early Bird Handicap.
Well beaten on his only run at two, Tim Easterby’s charge was second at 100-1 first time out this year at Doncaster.
He showed that was no fluke when giving a long odds-on shot Railwayman plenty to think about and a mark of 75 might be generous.
Ralph Beckett’s Secret of Life created a very nice impression when winning at Wolverhampton in August but she has not been seen since.
She runs for the first time in 275 days in the Unsung Heroes Fillies’ Novice Stakes having beaten the now 80-rated Hayynah.
Life will be tough under a penalty but Beckett excels with his fillies.
Andrew Balding’s Scarlet Legend was beaten a short-head on her debut at Salisbury but can go one better in the Pitch Perfect EBF Maiden Stakes.
The Nathaniel colt is Quickthorn’s brother, who won the Goodwood Cup in 2023, so staying will be his forte.
Given he was giving away experience on debut, you would think he can only come forward for that and it gives him the vote over the newcomer Humphrey, related to the likes of Gregory, Duncan and Samuel.
Phil Kirby’s Spirit Catcher looks the best bet at Musselburgh in the Racing TV Profits Returned To Racing Handicap.
A winner over nine furlongs at this track in April, he was second at Ripon over 10 on Sunday and now steps up to a mile and a half.
Percy’s Daydream was able to make all last time out at Doncaster and while she continues to rise up the weights, a small field in the Get Raceday Ready Handicap at Catterick gives her every chance of doing so again.
She is stepping back up in trip, but has already won over a mile and a half before so stamina is no issue.
Jamie and Saffie Osborne can team up for a winner with Em Four in the Why Bet Elsewhere, David Lucas Bookmakers Handicap at Chepstow.
He was third off a career-high mark of 80 at Salisbury last time out but showed that he could still be competitive.
