Bin Jahwar stays unbeaten in Haynes Hanson at Newbury

Bin Jahwar had to work a little harder than expected to remain unbeaten in the Haynes Hanson & Clark Conditions Stakes at Newbury.
Perhaps a sign that the Charlie Appleby-trained Ghaiyyath colt is highly thought of was the sight of the Moulton Paddocks handler at the Berkshire track on a Friday afternoon, and while the margin was a narrow one he will have liked what he saw.
The giant 2-5 favourite towered over most of his rivals, but had a battle on his hands a furlong out with Flying Pirate and King High challenging on either side of him, a different experience to winning a three-runner race on his debut.
However, when William Buick gathered him up and got him to use his impressive stride, he began to pull away and ultimately won by a neck from King High without looking fully extended.
The race has a habit of throwing up a smart colt going back to Henbit and Shergar in 1979 and 1980, with the likes of Rainbow Quest, Unfuwain and Nayef other winners and plenty of other top-class horses such as Westover being beaten in the race.
