Askar Tau is set to make his reappearance in Thursday's Coutts Goodwood Cup following a lengthy absence.Last seen when finishing fourth as favourite in the Cesarewitch last term, Askar Tau clocked up five wins on the bounce before his run came to end at Newmarket. He has not been seen this term as Marcus Tregoning's yard was hit hard by a low-grade infection earlier in the year, but the Lambourn handler is eager to see how he fares on his first foray into Group Two company."He's had plenty of time off, but he's a fresh horse and has been working extremely well," said Tregoning."It is a big ask for him on his seasonal bow and you just have to hope he's good enough at this level."It was a shame his run ended last year, but I wasn't that disappointed with his performance. It's a tough enough race and it's difficult in such a big field."The track might not suit him if he is a bit quirky, which I thought he was last year, although gelding him has helped that. It is his first try in Pattern-race company, so we will see what we've got."
