Ikhtiraaq dictated the pace to win a small-field contest at Pontefract on his latest start and that came on the back of a narrow success at Yarmouth. He carries a 6lb penalty for his recent win, but that should not be enough to stop him going close here.
He has only had six career starts - half of which he has won - and is open to yet more improvement having recently been gelded.
Heis in line for a Sunday Series bonus should he win this and, despite defeat at Newcastle last time, remains in top form.
Prior to that latest reverse he had won four races on the bounce in the style of a very progressive gelding. He may well have won at Newcastle if he had not been poorly positioned in a race run at a modest tempo and that effort suggests that he has not stopped improving,
