Dave Nevison's top horse racing tips for Thursday

I have always wanted to go over to Gowran Park for Thyestes Chase day but it will have to be next year. Again!
Still, if one of my colleague’s on racingtv.com tips me up the winner at a decent price I will be a step nearer. My efforts are focussed on a lower grade card at Wetherby.
12.40 Wetherby: Sigurd at 12-1 with William Hill

In recent times this horse has had two ways of running: the good ways have generally been at this track and the poor efforts have come elsewhere.
He did get well beat here on his reappearance but that was the first and only time he has run badly here, and was his first run for six months so he might have needed it.
Two subsequent modest efforts have seen his handicap mark drop to 102, which is 2lb higher than his latest win over course and distance.
He ran well here last spring, off a mark of 109, and should be an each-way price. I’m hoping he will be staying on much better than some of these up the punishing home straight.
1.45 Wetherby: Son Of The Somme at 7-1 with William Hill

When I see a horse named Large Action turning up again I get painful feelings on two fronts. Firstly, it makes me feel even older and secondly revives memories of a big Champion Hurdle bet didn’t get much beyond the second jump.
The horse that now goes by the same name doesn’t look much cop, but there are definitely one or two in this lowly event that might be worth watching.
Son Of The Somme looked a stayer last time at Sedgefield, shaping like one that could win a race soon. He has been beaten a neck on his past two starts and is off a 10lb higher mark than he ran off in his first handicap, but looks to be improving.
He is another who looks sure to go close at an each-way price in a race where only four can be seriously considered.
2.25 Southwell: Digital at 12-1 with bet365

Has never actually won over 6f but on many occasions has looked as though the step up in trip will suit him. He ran very well on his reappearance last season and I am hoping he may have strengthened up over the winter, and that this trip won’t prove beyond him.
He hasn’t run on the all-weather since he made his debut but that was a very good effort and I would be surprised if that was an issue.
Crack claimer Oisin McSweeney is booked and his 5lb will prove very valuable (I don’t expect it will last long in 2022) and Digital looks set to lead here. At this time of year the market is definitely worth watching, so I will be making my mind up on this one close to the off.
