There are a battalion of Gordon Elliott-trained runners in the Ladbrokes Troytown Handicap Chase at
Navan on Sunday. At least with this yard you can be pretty sure they will all be ready for battle and I fancy Elwood may be the pick of them.
My three selections, two trained by Elliott, are in other races.
12.30 Navan: Wide Receiver
This is a cracking contest. Wide Receiver is a lovely horse who, like his stablemate Eskylane, almost certainly wants farther. He was worn down near the finish at Punchestown and has a tongue-tie here, which is interesting as he rather cut out under pressure. He has more than enough ability to get involved at a decent each-way price.
2.45 Navan: Easywork
He was second to Envoi Allen when last in action at the
Cheltenham Festival and should be winning this. Six JP McManus-owned runners in the field means the market will be volatile but this one will be ready and, being by Network, he should make into an even better chaser,.
3.50 Navan: King Alex
Perhaps it was not a strong race he won at Ballinrobe but he bolted up despite jumping left on his debut for Barry Connell. I am surprised this horse has been left on a mark of 104, with the track looking sure to suit.
