Epsom will be hoping there is another Cracksman lurking among the eight entries for the Cazoo Blue Riband Trial (2.20) on Tuesday.
That seems unlikely but the 10f contest is an interesting race featuring runners from the yards of Appleby, Gosden, Balding and O’Brien. It will be well worth a watch on Racing TV.
1.50 Epsom: Electric Love
There are several old timers in this field of sprinters, most of whom know this unique Epsom 5f very well, but preference is for the lightly raced improver here in the shape of Electric Love.
She was most consistent in her only season to date and, after a promising debut second, she won successive handicaps at Yarmouth and then finished off with three decent handicap efforts.
She ran a good second on the turf track at Lingfield, which is about as close to Epsom as possible, so I don’t anticipate this course proving an issue for her. She will no doubt be slower out of the stalls than some in a race that will be run at a fierce pace. Hopefully, the gaps will open up for Electric Love late on.
2.55 Epsom: Achelois
This filly will likely be looking for black type this season and ran well in a Listed race on her final start last season.
She progressed well over last summer and won three handicaps, stepping up in distance for each one. Ten furlongs on fast ground looks her optimum and the race should be run to suit with this race containing several front runners in the line-up. Andrew Balding’s runners are going very well this spring.
Enjoy a day at the races on us
3.30 Epsom: Kings Prince
Hollie Doyle rode this very lightly raced type for the first time at Leicester this month and very narrowly failed to win after battling throughout the last couple of furlongs.
Kings Prince didn’t go on as hoped last term and evidently had issues, but he could well make up into an Ascot or Goodwood horse for the Johnstons this term.
He has gone back up 3lb for that fine reappearance effort but if he is back on track it won’t be his mark that stops him. Hopefully, he can progress and land this traditional early season feature.

Wild Blossom was cut to 5-1 for the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot after running out an impressive ten-length winner of a 5f fillies’ novice stakes for trainer Karl Burke at Carlisle.
The Wathnan Racing-owned two-year-old, a 300,000gns breeze-up purchase in April, scored in style on her debut under James Doyle.
The trainer used the same race as a springboard to Royal Ascot success last season with Venetian Sun, who went on to land the Albany Stakes on her next start.

Havana Anna demonstrated her love of Naas with a third course victory in the Group Three Goffs Lacken Stakes.
Runner-up to subsequent 1000 Guineas winner True Love in the Cheveley Park Stakes, she was last seen in action at the Breeders’ Cup.
Favourite Charles Darwin was the first to show but Aidan O’Brien’s colt was the first beaten two furlongs out.
Havana Anna (9-4), Royal Bay Cen and Tahcawin took it up down the centre of the course with 50-1 outsider Oh Cecelia keeping pace on the rail but Donnacha O’Brien’s Havana Anna was the last to come off the bridle and dug deep to hold off Oh Cecelia by a head.
The winning trainer said: “I’m delighted with her. I thought there was plenty to work on today. It was kind of a starting point.
“I think she’ll improve a lot for that so we’ll head for the Commonwealth now all being well. She deserves a crack at a big one so I’m really delighted.
“For a filly that wasn’t over big last year she has grown and strengthened. You never know going two to three whether they’ll train on but she seems to have anyway. She tries very hard and she’s always well able to jump.”
Havana Anna was cut into 10-1 from 25s for the Commonwealth Cup by Paddy Power.

Victorious is set for the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot after maintaining her unbeaten run as Ryan Moore timed his challenge to perfection in the Coolmore Stud Irish EBF Fillies Sprint Stakes at Naas.
Maria Quiteria pulled them along before the field laid down their challenge approaching the final furlong.
The duelling Vollering, from Archie Watson’s yard, and Victorious, who won on her debut over course and distance last month, took it up as Maria Quiteria faded.
Victorious surged clear and the big danger was coming from the rear of the field as Controlla was catching but Aidan O’Brien’s 10-11 favourite held off the newcomer by a neck.
The winner is bred to be good, being by the late Wootton Bassett out of Heaven On Earth, a sister to Minding and Tuesday.
O’Brien said: “She’s still green but she’s lovely. She’s coming lovely. I’m delighted with that.
“Ryan just said he followed two and they died in front of him at halfway and he got left there. She was a bit green when she was in front but it was good for her. The Albany is the plan for her.”
