There is a good card at
Salisbury on the with the Group Three Shadwell Dick Poole Fillies’ Stakes taking centre stage.
It is good to see Jessica Harrington sending a filly over for this race but no surprise as the trainer has an abundance of talented two-year-olds this season and the performance of Listed winner Millisle will give us, and the trainer, a useful sighter for the autumn.
I am not going to put one up in the race, but I am hopeful Summer Romance can get back on track.
She left her race behind at - and on the way - to the start last time and I cannot back her unless I see that she has behaved herself okay.
Frankie Dettori has some interesting rides at Haydock Park, most noticeably on the fantastic Gordon Lord Byron in his own race. It would be great to see him win, but it looks tough.
This looks the most obvious of Dettori’s three mounts on Thursday afternoon in what looks an atypically high-quality maiden for the time of year.
This horse has run well in two similar races at Newbury and presumably has had issues that kept him off the track in between the two.
He was stepped up in trip last time and was not given anything like a hard race in similar conditions and finished under hand riding.
His trainer clearly thinks he can stand his racing now and this looks a very suitable stepping stone to better things.
This horse will be in danger of becoming disappointing if it does not win this race which, although being of reasonable value and quite competitive, has nothing like the billing of the races
Sinjaari has contested at Newbury, Ascot and Goodwood.
Excuses including luck in running can justifiably be found for all defeats but there does not look to be a hiding place here and he needs to win.
William Haggas is pretty much the master placer of his horses and I am sure he is thinking that by lowering his sights here, he can book a place in the limelight for Sinjaari in the near future.
This one had become very well handicapped before winning at Nottingham two starts ago and it was easy to see why he went off favourite at Hamilton.
He ran no sort of race but would not be the only horse to have underperformed on heavy ground at that track and I am prepared to forgive that effort.
He looks set to lead this field which will definitely suit him and the appeal of the jockey booking is obvious.
He is still below a winning mark and can beat a typically-exposed field in this amateurs' event.
